Saturday Italian School – Bambini e Ragazzi
Our Saturday Italian language program offers a joyful, immersive experience for children of all ages. Through songs, storytelling, games, projects, and cultural activities, students grow in their understanding of the Italian language and culture while building community with their peers. Classes are grouped primarily by age, though placement by proficiency is also possible after consultation with the Program Director to ensure the best fit for each learner. Each level builds thematically and developmentally on the one before, supporting a natural progression of language acquisition and cultural knowledge.
Early Childhood (Ages 3–5)
Our youngest learners are introduced to the Italian language through songs, movement, crafts, and play. They learn the basics such as the alphabet, numbers, colors, days of the week, months, and weather, along with short phrases and vocabulary related to greetings, school life, and family. Cultural elements such as Italian holidays and traditions are woven into the curriculum. Students also participate in a Christmas performance and an end-of-year recital and take short neighborhood trips throughout the year.
Elementary 1 (Ages 5–8)
Children in this group build upon foundational skills while reviewing key early childhood topics. They continue to develop vocabulary and expressions to help communicate about their lives, families, school experiences, and community. Students also explore Italian geography, colors, seasons, and simple maps as they engage in thematic projects and storytelling activities. Learning is brought to life through interactive lessons and cultural celebrations. Students continue to take part in performances and annual field trips (such as a visit to the local Fire Station), learning relevant vocabulary in context. Students also participate in a Christmas performance and an end-of-year recital.
Elementary 2 (Ages 8–11)
Upper elementary students expand their language abilities through engaging, age-appropriate communicative tasks. Themes include self-description, family, community, daily life, and more, building on the foundation from Elementary 1. Students explore Italian culture and geography through project-based learning and interactive activities. There is a strong focus on growing vocabulary, building confidence in speaking, and strengthening reading and writing skills in Italian. Students also participate in a Christmas performance and an end-of-year recital, as well as other cultural workshops or events throughout the year.
Middle and High School (Ages 12–18)
Older students deepen their Italian language skills through more advanced conversation, reading, and writing tasks. They engage in real-world themes such as current events, cultural comparisons, identity, and travel, using project-based learning to connect language with life. Students explore Italian history, art, and contemporary culture while practicing grammar and vocabulary in meaningful, personalized contexts. Whether heritage learners or new to the language, students are placed at the appropriate level with support from the Program Director. Students also participate in a Christmas performance, an end-of-year recital, and other cultural workshops or events throughout the year.
